What made the Lion of the Punjab a Lion?
What made the Lion of the Punjab a Lion? Syed Waheed-ud-din, whose ancestors were Wazirs of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, and authored 'The Real Ranjit Singh' notes that a day before the death of King Ranjit Singh that:
'Early morning of June 26, the Sarkar had the honour and pride of enjoying the sacred sight of the Adi Granth and Dasam Granth and made prostration before them'. He took new medicine which revived him, and gave 800, 000rs and elephants, gold, and silver howdahs, and horses with gold and silver trappings. Knowing death was coming soon he undid his weapons and gave them to his servant and told them his time was near, tears were in his and their eyes.' Such was the great Maharaja Ranjit Singh!
